Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI)
What is Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection?
FLUORESCENT PENETRANT INSPECTION (FPI) is a nondestructive testing method for detecting discontinuities (cracks, seams, laps, cold shuts, laminations, and porosity) that are open to the surface.
Our Fluorescent Penetrant Line is capable of meeting the requirements of ASTM E-1417 and ASTM E-165 and is equipped with an overhead monorail conveyor system which allows us flexibility to:
- Accommodate a wide variety of parts sizes
- Assure a consistent and repeatable process
- Adjust parameters for specialized applications
- Provide large volume of production
An Electrostatic Spray System evenly coats each part with a Fluorescent (Zyglo ZL-19) water washable penetrant.
Our system also utilizes automatic rinse nozzles, air knifes, and a dry off oven that can be adjusted to the appropriate setting for YOUR application.
During the final stage of the process, the parts are examined under black light in a darkened area by a trained Level II Inspector in accordance with the requirements of SNT-TC-1A. Saran Industries maintains a full staff of trained and certified inspectors and system operators to assure a complete and effective inspection.
